Does Kenya Daily Post Make KSH 25,000 Per Day? Quite an Overstatement, See the Facts

who owns kenya daily post
A while ago there was a heated debate on Kenya blogosphere on who owns the controversial blog; Kenya Daily Post. Some quarters, suggested the blog is owned by Dennis Itumbi others refuting the claims said it’s  owned by Robert Alai, to cut the long story short, the owner of this blog that is ‘thought’ to receive massive traffic was reported to be Timothy Obare Rioba by Ghafla.

When I read the claim that Kenya Daily Post is clocking 25 k revenue per month, I thought it would be such a cool idea to own such a 'filthy cash cow' not until I took a pen and paper. I would like to issue a disclaimer before you start calling me names. This post is purely written to help you get better understanding of how to make money with Google AdSense in Kenya.

It is impossible to tell where you are going, if you don’t know where you are coming from

For a matter of fact, the average tech savvy Kenyan has no idea on how to make money using Google AdSense in Kenya. It is embarrassingly true to know that Google AdSense recently celebrated 10th birthday while in Kenya there is only a handful of Google AdSense publishers. I don’t want to curse the day before it ends since things are looking up; more Kenyans are warming up to Making Money with Google AdSense

The last time I checked, Google was trying to get Kenyan Businesses online but Kenyans did probably not get the message or simply ignored! Maybe it’s right to say ‘A nation with poor reading culture will also do poorly in technology.’

It is in this same context that judging Kenya with some ‘foreign’ yardstick Kenya is considered a failed state, quite alarming. Now let’s get down to the facts of proving if Kenya Daily Post is making that much in a month.

What it takes to make KSH 25,000 with Google AdSense
When Mutahi Ngunyi wrote about the tyranny of numbers, I believed him to the last full stop of that elections prediction masterpiece. Some people choose to ignore him as just another political gimmick, baptized him a propagandist not until the numbers trounced them!
It is therefore important to understand the tyranny of numbers when you are making money online. The traffic your website receives is directly proportional to what goes to your bank account.

By the time of writing this post, the said site was only monetizing with Google AdSense and therefore this argument is solely based on this assumption.  I have assumed the dollar rate is 80 bob so Ksh 25,000 is equivalent to $ 312.5.

Hypothetical Analysis of ‘Kenya Daily Post 25 K per day claim’ based on General Google AdSense Revenue Generation Facts

Google AdSense works with a model called CPM or CPC means Cost per Mile and Cost per click. The publisher or the website owner is paid every time that an ad is clicked or every time 1 mile is done. One mile in this advertisement jargon means 1000 views.

This means that if the CPM budget is $ 0.01 you require 100k views. Rarely will the CPM or CPC budget go higher than $3 for AdSense; this means if that was the CPM budget for every 1000 views the payment would be $3.

So to generate $312 which is approximately 100 times our CPM budget above; we require multiplying the traffic to that website by a hundredfold. So if this is true working backwards Kenya Daily Post should be receiving traffic of not less than 100k. In simple terms if the site gets 100k views per day and the budget per mile is $3 it is possible to achieve the $300 per day

You should however note we have calculated this figures on the extremes and rarely will this high CPM budget be that high. Even if we calculated the CPC estimates for the blog we would still end up with nearly the same figures.

So does the Site get that traffic everyday?
At the time of writing this post;
  1.  I picked an aged post of about 5-7 days to use as one of the estimates of traffic on the site.

  2. I also reviewed the Social Media Following of this Website

  3. I also reviewed the user experience and engagement on the site.

  4. I picked one of the most sensational news items since this site publishes mostly sensational gossips (The kind of a post everyone would click on and view)
  5. I picked the post with the highest number of comments (63 comments) Indicating good user interaction.

Opinion
From these facts it is not possible to achieve such number of views discussed above in a day, maybe in a week or two would be feasible. It is therefore not possible to make such money.
There are other ways that we can analyze potential traffic using SEO tools but it is not worth our time. Why don’t you be the judge?

Cons of Owning a 'Filthy Cash Cow'
Considering all these facts, I personally don’t like to own a filthy cash cow considering both the potential of attracting hate mongers,
