Choosing a Profitable Topic to Blog and Make Money

Today it’s exactly 20 days since I started writing this blog on a cold chilly morning of June. I have managed to gather momentum and I expect to roll out more informative content, tutorials and online money making guides in the future. Since I started writing this blog, I have received numerous emails (at the moment 37 emails) with questions on the different ways to make money online in Kenya and from abroad.

One of the most consistent questions that I have received from a large number of my following is how to make money from blogs and whether you can earn a living blogging in Kenya. I recently shared the Story of Steve on how he sold his website for a cool $6700, and promised I will be writing more in future posts on how to create a website you can sell for a fortune.  Today am glad to start this series of posts that will guide you step by step about starting your blogging business and probably help you get started or establish your blogging business in Kenya or from abroad. For those seeking to make money online through freelancing Ultimate Guide to Making Money Online will be the best place to start.

Important Considerations before you Start a Blog to Make Money
After going through all the emails I have received about starting a blog in Kenya and making money from the blog I settled on one email sent by Susan. Answering her questions you will pick out some important tips that you can employ when you are starting a blog. Here is her email:

Hi Njengah,

I am a keen reader of your blog, and would like to get some help on how I can start my own blog like this. I want to be writing on this blog about cooking, I am a passionate graduate of Hospitality College and I have been tramacking for a long. I am considering trying out online jobs as my cousin introduced me to them. I would like to own a blog that teaches people to cook, nutrition and good eating habits. Do you think it can make money like you write her on your blog? I need your advice pliz

Suzie

My Response:

Plan your Time well or Balance Work and Blogging to Get head

Balancing a day job and blogging as a business may not be a great success within a short time. Over a long period of time your blog can outgrow your salary then you decide to quit your job to concentrate on it.

On this case, obviously Susan is looking for a way to make money online and she is opting to start by blogging. She also says she has not found a job yet since she graduated; this are two important things that she should think about before she start a blog. If she will be able to balance work and blogging, then she can do it.

Else she can outsource some of the things like content creation and SEO. It might require her to post about 3 posts per week for a year to start making reasonable amount of cash from the blog. It’s even easier and the money will come in first if you have the right content strategy. In this case developing bog content for profitable niche.

Give your Blog Readers the Content they are looking for

You should always think of a blog like a shop; a shop keeper would not keep goods that customers do not require in the shop. If the goods are not moving fast it means they are not the best for the kind of customers.

It is important to know before you start any blog what the niche or topic of the blog is…..create a general blog topic, look for competition and also analyze the available methods you can use to make money on this blog.

Be ready for Serious Commitment

Blogging for profits is not an easy job as it requires you to be consistent in publishing content on your blog, you must identify the right content that will earn you money and you have to be ready to give it 100% commitment.

I will say again and again that blogging is a tricky business that should only be left to those who are ready to invest some effort on everyday but will reap high ROI in a few month or a year or two years to come. You will not be successful overnight, that’s my first warning for anyone who wants to start making money with blogging.

Choosing a Profitable Niche to Blog about

Can Susan Start a Blog on Cooking Niche and Make it a Success?
Yes, Susan can start a blog on cooking and make it a great success because:

 Passion

She mentioned in her email that cooking is a topic she is passionate about; when you are making a blog since it will take a long of time to write or develop content for a blog, choose a topic you are passionate about.

       Knowledge on the Topic

Susan mentioned she has a background in the industry of hospitality and she is a graduate. This makes it a big plus for her to start a blog that is centered on the topic of cooking. She has enough tips to share about cooking with her audience.

       Availability

Susan says that she is available since she is now considering to start an online money making venture. The most important fact about making money online is having time to write, publish and optimize the content that you write. This is very important for anyone who thinks of making money online blogging.

So what do you consider about a topic when you want to start a blog?

The bottomline while you are settling on a niche to blog about you should always consider a topic that you are passionate about, then delve deeper to looking for a profitable sub niche within the same niche. If you have a passion for technology, starting a general blog on technology would not be as profitable as narrowing down to a less competitive blog niche that you are guaranteed to rank higher in Search Engines, attract serious traffic and make the money you dream about online!
