When I
first started working online I was doing it on a trial and error basis what
most Kenyans do. I did not think I would ever make any serious money online in
Kenya. I was shocked to receive an email from a friend who told me he had just
sold his first website for a fortune. Then (August 2011), selling a website
seemed to me to be one of the weirdest dreams that you can imagine of as a
Kenyan struggling to barely make money online. I was amused when I learnt of my
friend’s success in creating a website and selling it for a fortune within 12
months.
I want us to focus on this story of Steve and borrow from it some
important lessons for building a blog that will make you money and possibly
sell it off for a fortune some day in future.
Where do you Start to Make Money with Blogging?
Blogging
for money in Kenya is a simple business model that is not capital intensive,
further more you can start a blog for free (like mine) before you move to self
hosted solutions. Yes! It is absolutely free to create a blog on some free blog
hosting services and get started with your internet marketing dreams. Steve
told me e created his first blog while in Campo and was writing, promoting and
marketing the blog while his peers were busy clubbing.
My advice to anyone who wants to start making
serious money online in Kenya, you have start today not tomorrow; you don’t have
to wait for such a time when you can create a self hosted you can try to start
blogging using the free hosted options that allow you to start monetizing the
site immediately.
Blogger is
a good option to try and see if you can start your blogging options. If you
have some little money (as little as $6 + $6 for domain and hosting), you can
start your own blog that will make you good monthly income; you have to be patient
and ready to provide your blog readership with great content. Content of the
blog is the driving force behind success of any website or blog out there.
Monetizing your Blog
Ideally all
the blogs make money by selling some advertisements or selling products. You
are going to learn some important ways to monetize your website and how to
improve the income your blogs makes with each passing day. This will come in a
future post.
Selling Websites for Profits: Creating a Website that
attracts Good Buyers
For those
who have not heard about selling websites for a fortune they may be interested
in learning how to sell a website and where to sell a website. This is a
topic for another day; creating a website in Kenya for business is one of the
first steps towards increasing your business reach but for internet marketing
websites you have to think beyond Kenyan audience. To sell a website you need
to prove that the website is making money that is the bottom-line.
In most
cases these websites that are sold for good money will make at least 10 % of
the total website sale price. This means Steve’s website was making a minimum of
$600 a month for him to sell it $6,700 approximately KSH 536, 000 …you think
this is cool or damn easy? Not until you have spent 12 months building a website
that makes you $ 600 the effort and thoughts that goes to building such a website
is worth every single shilling you get as a profit.
It is possible
to follow Steve’s example and build a website that will make you some good cash
every month. Everyone is doing it and its picking up the pace in Kenya; there
are several blog owners in Kenya who are smiling all the way to the bank.
I hope this
story inspires you to make a difference and you are ready to start making money
blogging.
